Hi,
My name is Pete Carroll, a Composer, Songwriter & Producer based near Lanark, in Scotland. I have been a musician for 39 years, where I have personally studied most styles/genres, typically guitar based, but I also love Classical, Jazz and Filmscore. I have previously signed Publishing/Sync in the US for my songs and I have composed for a Film Shorts and some Brand work. I am also a Photographer of over 20 years and dabble in Videography, as well as Web Design.
I spent 3 years at college in the early 90s, studying "Sound & Video Production" (essentially TV Production and Sound Recording. Some lecturers were ex-BBC) for a year, then "Music Technology & Management" for a year and a final year in "Information Studies" at colleges in Glasgow. Combine all this with a 16 year career in IT Support.
I recall as a child, around 10 years old or so, how I understood the power of music and visuals, as I woke up early one Sunday morning, ran downstairs, readied the song "Lean On Me" on the stereo record player, plastered tomato ketchup over my chest and lay on the floor, seconds before my mother came into the living room. The intro to Lean On Me was a rather fitting mood, quite solemn, but this was Glasgow, my mother responded "what are you doing, get up !!"
I also used to record the ice cream van on my Panasonic Stereo Cassette Player, as a young teenager, then play the recording back after the ice cream van had left, and watch as neighbours came out seeking their ice cream and sweeties fix, only to find an empty road with no van. We repeated that a few times.... "you seen the van ?" they would shout......."Naw !" we would reply.
Music and Imagery are very powerful mediums, they have shaped life & humanity since time began. I understand this.
My musical journey began in 1978, when I was introduced to the music of Buddy Holly & The Crickets, during a school trip to Melrose, in the Scottish Borders. A fellow classmate had somehow brought a record player and vinyl records. That person went onto become the piano/keys player in a very well known 80s Scottish pop band, Hue & Cry.
Then some years later, 1985, the universe kicked me again, as I was walking out my parents home near Glasgow, Scotland, as The Buddy Holly Story, starring Gary Busey, was on the TV. Needless to say, I didn't go out that night, I was so captivated and remembered the time I first heard Buddy Holly/The Crickets music back in Melrose, some years before. I remembered I had an old acoustic guitar in my parents loft/attic, and brought it down. I didn't have any strings, so used fishing gut from my father's fishing kit. I stayed in for around a year, learning to play guitar to the music of Buddy Holly & The Crickets and other rock & roll pioneers from the 50s, Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, Bill Haley, Everly's, Bo Diddley and many others. From there, I learned to play guitar and songs from the 60s, 70s 80s etc and it all led me to joining bands locally and then fronting my own combos, writing and performing/recording my own songs from around 1993. I started composing instrumental music around 2005. I have previously signed Publishing & Sync for my own songs/music.
